The New Jersey Chapter of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society
Founded on December 1, 1968, the New Jersey Chapter has organized numerous public events, lectures, concerts, book presentations, and other cultural celebrations over the years. The chapter proudly encompasses a choir, a dance ensemble, and a theatrical group, each contributing to the preservation and promotion of Armenian heritage through the arts.
Established in 2006, the Arekag Choir has flourished under the artistic direction of Dr. Vagharshag Ohanyan. The choir has performed on many distinguished stages, including a notable appearance at Carnegie Hall. After a pause during the pandemic, we are delighted to return—reviving the music, stories, and spirit that continue to unite our community.
Founded in 2004, the Nayiri Dance Ensemble is composed of four groups—Van, Kars, Bitlis, and Erzurum. Under the guidance of the accomplished instructor Baron Barkev Sanossian, the ensemble has graced both local and international stages. Since Fall 2025, Miss Tvene Baronian was appointed as the new instructor for the Van group, continuing the ensemble’s tradition of excellence and cultural expression.
Established in 2014, the Levon Shant Theatrical Group has been led by the talented director Vartan Garniki Oganesian, a member of the renowned Oganesian artistic family of Yerevan, Armenia. Among the plays he has directed are Night Over Erzinka, Lipstick No. 4, The Sixth Step of the Waltz, and Twelfth Night.
Through its rich programs in music, dance, and theater, Hamazkayin New Jersey Chapter continues to celebrate and preserve Armenian culture, fostering creativity, community, and a shared sense of identity.
